Boots 5  Internationale 8

OK so it looks more like a rugby score but I can assure you it was indeed a 7-a-side result from the departmental league. Thirteen goals in all and certainly entertaining for anybody watching (Ok so nobody was watching!). With only 6 players the Boots team turned up with a great "plan A" - hope the opposition forget to turn up. Unfortunately that didn't happen. Thankfully the Inter captain showed a great sense of sportsmanship (or good tactical nowse take your pick) and allowed the game to play as a 6-a-side. It was a cold and windy day, but for a change dry. The 1st half was a good contest. Inter had a goal disallowed for handball before Taribo Wes put the Boots ahead with a cool finish after a good sweeping move. Alas minutes later Inter broke away quickly from a free kick in their half and coolly slotted away a skilfully taken equaliser.  Another strike before halftime saw a 1-2 scoreline. The 2nd half again saw a spirited Boots performance with a great "never say die" attitude. And it wasn't long before Wes pulled us level with a precision header that hit the back of a defender and deflected in. 2-2. Although somewhat in disarray in defence Inter were starting to look menacing coming forward and two quick strikes left the Boots floundering at 2-4. But in stepped Wes again to turn his man and volley home through the keeper's legs for an excellent hat trick. 3-4. It was at this point that a terrific run from Andy striding the length of the pitch was rewarded with an attacking corner. Andy promptly sunk to his knees and starting whimpering like a baby. Thinking he was having a heart attack most of the Boots and Inter players (I couldn't be arsed - too far to run) rushed to his aid to discover he had thought it good sport to give the pitch a kicking and knackered his ankle in the process. Unfortunately his defending capabilities diminished with this injury. Two more goals conceded from a great strike from almost on the by-line and then after a slip by the struggling Andy were partially off set a by another Boots strike again from Wes. 4-6. Inter was rampant by this stage and scored another before Wes blasted into to the top of the net and then Inter rounded off the scoring to complete the goal fest. 5-8.
A good game to play in and yet again a good team performance by the Boots. Although results have gone against us in recent games team spirit has been excellent. A good solid performance by Andy until his injury. A cheeky back heal on the touchline to Wes in the 1st half displayed unknown skill and was probably the catalyst that prompted the Inter boys to show what they could do. Even carrying his injury he still managed to get in a great goal saving tackle right at the end. Timinator. A solid cool performance yet again with lots of running - and he ran the Bath half marathon on Sunday! At one point, frustrated by Wes greedily scoring all our goals, he tried to score at our end only for Gudjackson to deny him on the line. Dan - very assured and calm. This boy reads the game well, got some good interceptions and was unlucky not to score - bloody fit too. Ian - good Boots 7-a-side debut and hopefully the first of many. Lots of running, tackling and you get the feeling there are goals in him. Wes - FIVE goals! Greedy B*****d!!! Great display of finishing. Inter really didn't know how to stop him. My vote for Boot of the Match.

Iron Boot Award: Wes gets this. Somehow he managed to flatten their blond haired "Argentinean" centre back by going through the back of him when Wes was in front of him with the ball!

Soft Slipper: Andy. You're meant to kick the ball and opposition NOT the pitch mate!

Skill Boot: Joint award. Andy for his back heal in the first half. Ian for his goal saving tackle in the 1st half appearing from nowhere when the forward seemed to have an open goal.

Boot of the Match - vote in progress!
