Boots 5 Biology 2
This one was an all time boots classic, initial worries of
an unfamiliar back 3 were soon dispelled and Mike had the ball in the back of
the net almost immediately! Soon it was two nil to the Boots with Nic slotting
home. So some clinical finishing from the boots and to be honest we were
creating plenty more chances. At the back the look was solid, lots of talking
from Jez helping the back line of James and Wolf to Keep Biology at bay. But
this was a team effort and everyone played their part covering positions and
playing smooth almost total football. The boots were again rewarded for such
good play when Dan smashed home a third and we were sitting pretty with a 3
goal lead. Wolf looked like he could have made it 4 but forced a good save from
the biology keeper. From then on it looked like we would take that lead into
half time but a rare slip up at the back resulted in biology smashing in a
reply right on the stroke of half time.
The second half started with the boots in the same
swaggering form and right from the kick off we were threatening the biology
goal. However things weren’t quite as rigid in the second half and Biology made
a few signs that they could get back into the game with some last ditch boots
defending required. However the Boots were soon back on top, Mike thumped in
the Boots’ fourth, sealing the points. The boots then played some really smooth
passing moves as well as some excellent long range efforts; at this point it
was exhibition stuff! Mike eventually sealed his hat-trick with another low
drive into the corner of the goal and the points were safe for sure. At this
point the boots sensed a drubbing on the cards and it was real cavalier
football leaving ourselves a touch open at the back but still passing and
creating chances one super, one touch passing move opened up Biology and really
did deserve another goal but the ball was blazed wide. Biology to their credit
plugged away and were rewarded a consolation goal that will have to go to the
dubious goals committee (if there were one there isn’t so I’d rather it went
down as a biology goal). James (mainly in jest) was adamant that Mike touched a
Biology cross that was going straight along the by-line in to his own net. To
be honest someone must have touched it as it went through a maze of legs to
trickle in off the post. Still that didn’t take the gloss of what was certainly
one of the best Boots team performances I have ever seen and definitely one of
the best to watch and fun to play in. Other things of note were the biology
keepers’ interesting interpretation of where the penalty area was, on another
day we may have been baying for a free kick or two! Anyway more games like this
and we could be in for a top 4 finish!
Boot on debut: Not really but a debut in goal for Jez in the
first half
Iron boot: A clean game can’t think of one
Hat-trick boot: Mike
