Boots 0 inter 3
We was robbed!
Things initially didn’t look good for the boots, no subs,
missing some regulars and facing a free scoring Inter Side. However we decided
to have some tactics (back to basics) for this and they paid off! The boots
started brightly inviting Inter on to them and came close very early on from a
snap shot on the edge of the area from yours truly. From there we looked solid
and put plenty of pressure on the Inter keeper. It was Inter who looked in
disarray they couldn’t find a pass and there was little out let to their
forwards and some bitching amongst each other. The world seemed upside down as
there was plenty of probing counter attacks from us. When Inter did break
through the defence was solid and organised. A few minutes into the match we
(I) got some respite when the Boots’ little Gem Jackie arrived. He put in a
super display, both at the back and going forward and was fouled more than once
by Inter. Unfortunately there was a clear indication that it wasn’t to be our
day; Inter, confined to distance shots, had a lucky break with a wicked
defection that came off Jez to leave James stranded and Boots 1-0 down.
Normally heads would have gone down but we came straight
back at them and Ian forced a save from the Inter keeper almost immediately.
This was quickly followed by a couple more chances. However our luck ran out
again in the form of a deflection, this time off Chris’s hand, making what was
looking like an easy save for James, spin into our net. So 2-0 down, but we
were still the better team when half time came and it was Inter who seemed to
be having a post mortem of their performance.
The second half was less of an intense affair with most of it
being played in the inter half. This was partly from good distribution from
front to back with Ian dropping into midfield, Dan upfront and Jackie in the
centre. The boots frustrated the Inter flair game and didn’t give them any
chances at all for the first 10 min while we put a good few together ourselves forced
countless corners and last ditch clearances including one off the goal-line! The
breakthrough just wouldn’t come for us and it was one of those days where you
do everything right and the football gods have it in for you (a feeling very familiar
to a City/Scotland fan!). And so inter had a couple of breaks as we really
pushed for a goal and hit a wonder
strike, with curve, around Jez and James, perhaps their only genuine shot in
the second half. Gadzooks!
Still a top, top performance from the Boots, well done lads we
will get a result against most of the other teams if we play like that. More of
the same next time please!
Skill Boot: quite a few stand out but Jackie had some nice
dribbles and flicks and often had 3 inter players on him so he can have it
Boot on Debut: Jackie, please play again!
Unlucky Boot: Jez the number of good blocks he puts in that
end up in our net is bonkers, he’s almost the top scorer in the league!
Special mention to TK for playing through the pain!
