To use a cliché it was just one of those days. The Boots
started well and looked like they might win this one comfortably with plenty of
the ball and loads of shots, unfortunately precious few on target. However to
say that we were the better side would be doing Team Bath Staff a disservice,
they were happy to soak up the pressure and use their pace to hit us on the
break and it was a tactic that worked. A familiar story to veteran Boots, we
were playing well, made too many subs too quickly and lost our shape and
rapidly went a goal down after this happened. However it was not all doom and
gloom and we responded with a flurry of chances and an epic goal-line scramble
in which we unbelievable failed to score. Team Baths response was to stick
another goal in to leave us 2-0 down at the break.
At the start of the second half the boots were again shaky
and quickly conceded the third. At this point Team Bath were by far the better
side and were capitalising on a loss of shape by a boots team where no-one
really seemed to know where they were playing it was only a matter of time
before another break and another goal. Things settled down after that and the
Substitutions were culled and the Boots began to get back into the game and
forced a couple of saves but were again guilty of hopeful shots that went off
target. However the pressure did seem to p[ay off and Mark got the consolation
goal. Team Bath
quickly responded with one of the dodgiest goals I have seen, a blatant
handball from their number 5 who had been slippery for the whole match.
Unfortunately the Boots shout was not strong enough to be convincing so they
got away with it, and it wouldn’t have affected the result anyway. So no game
next week lets hope we are back in form for the next game!
Iron Boot: Going to give this to James for some brave saves
Skill Boot: Would have given this to James if his kick out
had actually hit their 5 on the head! But again my vote is for James keeping
the score line down with some acrobatic saves
Verdict: Too many long shots, too Many Subs, we need to be
more patient and disciplined in future I know everyone wants a run out but we
need to keep the team fairly stable, if
it isn’t working after 5-10 min then change it. Perhaps if we are a couple up
then the subs can roll
