What a lovely day! I was a bit late so missed Marks opener
and only just caught Jez’s stunning back heel skill/fluke goal. So it was 2-0
up in fewer than 10 minutes. The boots
were playing some good stuff and it was all looking comfortable with chances a
plenty. OCS did have a bit of a threat on the break but most were snuffed out
before they produced any notable chances. The ship wobbled after a bit of
confusion over subs but even so we were still creating the chances. However
amid the positional confusion OCS found a way in and got a goal back and for a
few moments it looked like we had a game on our hands but with half time
looming they didn’t press us any more.
After a good half time team talk, in which we sorted out the
subbing, the second half started well - have we got out of the habit of
conceding straight after half time? Plenty of Boots attacking ensued, Dan was
unlucky not to score and eventually we forced a corner, Mark volleyed the
clearance and sent in an absolute bullet of a shot that was perhaps the best
goal the boots have scored in recent months (if not years it had me grinning
like the Cheshire cat). But it wasn’t
all over and a lot of football was still left to play. The subbing worked well
and Terrence put in another blinding display on the left and showed yet again
that he has no fear and a good header! So with more chances spurned eventually
another sub, Ian picked up the scraps of a goal line scramble and put us 4-1
up. Shortly afterwards Mark sealed his hat-trick making it 5-1 to the boots
(although he might have done that before Ian scored I can’t remember). It all
seemed to be fun from there on. There was good conversation with Tim in goal,
in fact OCS could have scored on the break as we were all too busy chatting to
notice! With OSC bickering, time was called and to celebrate we had a team
photo.
A great start to the season, as long as we don’t change the
way we play too much we could be contenders, but lets get a few games under our
belts before we all become Bertie big bollocks.
Hat-trick and match ball: Mark
Iron Boot: Terrence for is fearless heading with a special
mention to Christian who played through the pain barrier
Skill boot: Has to be Mark for his Volley, special mention
to Jez for his back heel, if he meant it!
Fluke Boot: He didn’t, so it goes to Jez
Casual Boot: Tim conjured images of the days Keepers kicked
their heels and smoked fags when the ball was up at the other end, all he
needed was a flat cap (and a fag) to finish off the look.
