Boots 2-1 OCS
Another game, another win, three on the trot is that a
record? Anyway let’s not get complacent as I think that is the only fault to
our game at the moment!
Well the first half started comfortably for the boots, we
adapted to the new lush surface quite well (I promise no mention of Russia and a similar
score line, oops!), did the slower speed and lower of bounce of the ball suit
our play? Probably not but the shorter pitch sure did! Anyway we were quickly
one nil up thanks to a lovely cheeky header by Mike who left the keeper
stranded and for dead, I cant remember who supplied the cross but it were a
good one! After the goal we lost our shape a bit and despite a few more gilt
edge boots chances OCS got back into the game. Their goal came a few mins from
half time with there deceptive number 14 capitalising from a bit of confusion
at the back from the boots recent substitution, he narrowly beat Jez to stuff
in an excellent header. The boots of old would have crumbled at this point and
almost did when 14 again leaped like a salmon and struck the bar. Despite this
we kept our heads up and finished the half looking the stronger team. For me
player of the half was Wolfy who was dog tired from his efforts.
In the second half we went back to our original starting
line up, the Wolf picked up an early injury and Bobby stepped in to take the right
wing position. There were some decent
moves from the boots from both the left and right wings and we looked like we should
have scored a hatful. Indeed it was only a matter of time before we breached
the OCS defence again with Mike lashing a vicious shot that was saved by the
keeper to be cleared off the line by OCS; the ball fell to yours truly who was
in an excellent position and coolly slotted in a superb right footed shot
through a maze of players who stood in awe at the beauty of the spectacle and
was then roundly applauded by both teams for a dazzling display of skill (Phil
are you listening I hear you have had a good scoring record off the field recently
but this was a master class!) had an easy tap in which eventually sealed
the points. After this, while the boots still had some good chances, OCS pushed
hard for the equaliser and it almost always seemed as if they had one man over
and it proved very tricky to mark them as their forward players kept on
swapping sides and positions. Despite a couple of close shaves including a
flashing cross cum shot that was fortunately missed by all of the advancing OCS
players that’s how it remained with the boots taking maximum points so far this
season.
Skill boot: Wolfy’s forceful
dribbles lets him get my vote although mikes cheeky header is a close second
and some of James B’s saves deserve a mention
Iron Boot: No clear cut winner in what I think was a clean gamel, Christian was in the, mix as ever with a worthy mention over the "handball" incident, but wasn't violent enough to get an
award.
Betting update: One in, OCS didn’t take the bribe
