Boots 3 Architecture 2
A much improved performance by The Magnificent Flying Boots after our dismal start to the season. We looked assured from the off and actually played some decent football at times creating several good chances early on. In fact the opening goal was a Boots gem. After some great play in midfield Mike found Ali in space on the left hand side of the area who produced a wonderful layoff to find Wolfy clear. The Boots version of Rudi Voller (but without the perm) coolly slotted the ball home. 1-0. Architecture came back at the Boots but good defending gave Gudjackson little to do. Perhaps it was this inactivity that left the Boots stopper a tad flat footed when a shot took a deflection off Tim and nestled into the corner of the net. HT 1-1 and a little unlucky not to be ahead. The Boots started the second half brightly and Ian and Mike continued to carve out decent chances. But it was the Mexican-Scottish combo that did the trick again as Davids surged forward from defence and threaded a great ball through for Ian to hammer into the corner of the net (and out again because the netting was bust). 2-1. It was time for Architecture to step up a gear but the Boots matched the step up in intensity with a terrific work rate and no nonsense defending. But with the boys in black chasing the game the Boots were able to break and Wolfgang galloping forward smashed the ball hard and low past the Architecture keeper. 3-1. There was still time for the customary Boots panic however. Gudjackson managed to palm away an angled drive across his goal only to see the ball land at the feet of two unmarked Architecture players. Despite getting a touch to a thundering effort the Boots keeper was left down and almost out. 3-2. Anything but a win would have been unjust though and with little time left the Boots held out for a good win.
Boots: Toby, Tim, Wolfgang, David, Ian W, Rob, Ali, Mike, Stu Boots scorers: Wolfgang (2), Ian W
Iron Boot: Mike......for his cynical, diabolical professional foul on the Architecture forward helping his opponent complete his dive. Our gallant hero has held this award for two weeks on the trot now and is destined to become a Hard Man Boot...any challengers to his crown?
Skill Boot: Wolfgang.....for his terrific rasping strike for the third goal that sealed the points.
Jonny Wilkinson Boot: Gujackson....Lots of similarities between the two Englishmen particularly concerning injuries......in fact the England fly half could easily pass himself off as the Boots keeper if he couldn't play rugby, was a crap goalie, had no money, no groupies and wasted time writing naff Boots match reports.......
Stui Costa Chuntering rating: 4/10.....a quiet day for our Stu.
