Boots 2 Mech 5

A new season quickly following on from an old competition that the Boots had finished in good form. Oh dear! It all went horribly wrong and again we got off to a new campaign with a bad start. And it all started so brightly too. Mike and Ian had been threatening to make early inroads from the off and it was of no surprise when the Boots went one up. What was a surprise was the quality of finish from Mike, a stunning volley on the break. I say it was a surprise, but to be honest Mike has shown in the few games he has played so far that he is well worth goals like that. After this moment of glory it all went downhill very rapidly. Within no time the Boots were 1-3 down and that score probably flattered us a bit at half time. Passes that should have been made were incomplete, tackles missed, men left unmarked, shots not saved and a half decent opposition came to life. The second half saw the Boots regain some composure and produce some spirited running, particularly from Davids, consciences defending from Ian and some angry chuntering from Stui Keane. A neat goal set up by a good low cross by Mike was finished by Ian as if he were a 30 goal a season striker. This pegged the score back to 2-3. As ever though when the game is there to be chased holes open up at the back. To be fair only two such opportunities came the way of Mech Eng late on and they converted both. Ho hum.
