Boots 0 OCS 6
A big defeat, in fact a very big defeat. This will go on record as the biggest losing margin in a competitive Boots game. To be fair we have played a lot worse, but we have also played a lot worse teams than OCS. They were very well organised, quick and skilful. Defensively they were solid, in midfield controlled and upfront decisive. To be fair the Boots held firm for long periods and ran our socks off chasing, harrying, tackling and blocking. We had our moments too. Strong calls for a free kick on the edge of the OCS box were turned down after Wes was blocked by two defenders. Was this an Andy Johnson moment? Will I now get sued by Wes, Everton and Andy Johnson? Whatever the speculation no free kick was awarded. During the course of the match Wes battled well up front by himself but was always fighting a losing battle. Wolfgang made a few surging runs and had a couple of decent efforts and Sevachenko hit the post in the second half with a viscous dipping effort from distance. However, it was at the other end of the pitch that the decisive moments occurred. Midway through the first half a superb through ball was brought under control with great skill by the OCS marksman who promptly sidestepped a despairing lunge by Wolfgang and slotted under a static Gudjackson to give OCS the lead. Remarkably the score was only 0-1 at half time which gives a good reflection on the hard work and endeavour put in by the Boots team. Alas, the pressure began to tell in the 2nd half and shortly after the restart the score was 0-2. A poor punch by Gudjackson was picked up in the middle of the park by an OCS midfielder who jinked his way infield and placed a superb effort into the bottom corner of the goal. A third soon followed. Chasing the game the Boots were hit on the break and with options in the penalty area the onrushing OCS forward chose to lash the ball past Gudjackson at his near post that the hapless Boots keeper should really have covered. The fourth resulted from the inability of Gudjackson to clear the danger. Racing out of his goal he failed to get to the ball first with a withering challenge to present a simple soft goal to OCS. The fifth goal was again a result of being caught on the break in numbers. A squared ball was just kept in play a pulled back for any easy finish from close range into an empty net. Then on the stroke of full time a shot-cum-pass was turned into the Boots goal by a lurking OCS striker. Ho hum. One of those Boots days.......
Boots: Toby, David, Wolfgang, James, Tim, Seva, Wes
Boot on Debut: James H
Iron Boots: The back three of Tim, David and Wolfy.
Skill Boot: Sevachenko's long range effort in the second half that hit the base of the post.
