Boots 2 Chemistry 5
This was a much closer match than the score suggests. The opening exchanges were fairly even, but it was the Boots who opened the scoring. An obvious handball on the line resulted in a penalty. After much debate about where the kick should be taken Wes confidently stroked the ball home. 1-0. Soon after it was 1-1. Chemistry broke down the Boots left and the ball was centred and easily converted by one of the two free players waiting for the cross. Wes hit the bar after a good ball from Andy and at the other end Ian made a couple of fine saves in goal. Chemistry dominated the later stages of the first half and it was no surprise when they took the lead after another cross from the Boots left found a man free in the box. The new found fighting spirit amongst the Boots should not be under estimated. A surging run from Boberto saw him cross to Wes who got a good shot in that was saved but went loose at the near post. Still following up his run Boberto pounced to make the score 2-2 with his first ever Boots goal. At the beginning of the second half the game was very tight with neither side wanting to give away the initiative. If anything the Boots were creating the better chances and starting to look like the better side. Dino in the Chemistry goal made several fine saves and Millerdona was very unlucky when he became the second Boot to hit the bar in the match. Chemistry remained a potent force on the break and with about 10 mins to go a defensive mistake was capitalised on with a good finish at the far post to leave the Boots trailing. Although a few chances still came their way the Boots began to tire and Chemistry added two late goals to make the score 2-5. A bad score line but a spirited display. Ian reluctantly donned the keeper's jersey and had a great game making several good stops and could do nothing about the goals. Wolfgang was solid as ever and worked hard - he looked too tired to talk after the game! Marbs put in a gallant performance for a man coming in of the back of 3 days of gastric flu. Timinator - again his organisational skills came to the fore and should be commended for tireless running despite carrying an injury. Boberto - immense! Tackled hard, much to the annoyance of Chemistry and scored his first Boots goal. David - this kid is getting better and better and his fitness puts the rest of us to shame. Millerdona - great game. Superb control on the ball, quick accurate passing and very unlucky not to score and all that with a dodgy foot! Wes - fantastically cool German style penalty keeping his nerve after the kick had been delayed. Unlucky not to add to his tally. Imposed himself on the opposition defence and let his Portuguese opposite number know he'd been in a game. Iron Boot: Boberto for his semi sliding tough challenge in the 2nd half Hard Boot: Wes for his altercations with opposition defenders - this boy doesn't cry like a girl! Skill Boot: Wes for his very cool German style penalty Soft Slipper: Gudjackson for poking himself in the eye.....and Chemistry keeperDino (who had a blinder!) for pulling his groin taking a harmless kick out!!
