Boots 3  BUCS 2

Another win and our second of the season! And what a good win it was. The game started very well for the Boots who made all the early running and went ahead with a calm finish from Wes after being put through after a great ball from new Boot Mark. Not long after Rich finished off a good cross from Wolfgang at the second time of asking to make the score 2-0 and it appeared we were coasting. At this point BUCS brought on their super subs who changed the game and put the Boots on the back foot. After a series of corners and another "TV dive" save from Gudjackson, BUCS pulled one back not long before half time. A long range effort sailed into the bottom corner of the net, an effort the Boots keeper really should have dealt with. In between times Boberto nearly added another for the Boots with a thunderous strike against the bar.
The second half carried on where the 1st half had left off with the Boots defence coming under considerable pressure. Eventually a crack was found when a superb curling effort into the bottom corner of the net off a post left Gudjackson rooted to the spot and brought the scores level. In the past the Boots would have folded at this point, but we seem to have developed a new resolve in recent weeks. The game was taken back to BUCS in some style. Wes received the ball on the right of the BUCS area and (ala Gascoigne against Scotland in 1996) chipped the ball over the defender, spun round him and side footed into the net. Probably the Boot goal of the season! After this there was some backs against the wall defending to be done with last ditch tackles and point blank saves. Mark almost made the game safe in the dying moments but the BUCS keeper stood firm. But hold on we did to record a fine win over a decent BUCS side.

Another commanding performance from Tim who has become irreplaceable. Wolfgang showed great resolve at right back and also managed some good probing runs, one of which led to the 2nd goal. Boberto - those dancing feet worked their magic on the Boots left covering ever blade of astro turf and was very unlucky not to score! Marbs - Back in the side and as reliable and solid as ever. Al - provided great defensive cover particularly with a goal saving tackle in the first half. Dan - very hard working and did much to snuff out many of the attacks in the 2nd half, the Boots equivalent of Richie McCaw. Mark - looks like a very good player indeed. A fine Boots debut. He set up the first goal and was unlucky not to get one himself. Bossed the midfield. Wes - at his best. Two goals. One class, one great! Rich - another goal to his name. Looked dangerous in front of goal.

Iron Boot Award: Andy for kicking Mark.

Soft Slipper Award: Andy for kicking Mark

Skill Boot: Wes for his Gazza-esque 3rd goal.
